Steeped in history, WAHO’s design intent served to inform visitors about the Emirati culture and people. Inspiration was drawn from the coastal margin between the desert landscape and the sea and in particular, the role pearl diving has played.
The placemaking narrative was founded upon this vital element of Emirati heritage which underpinned the livelihood of tribes, communities and family. This concept guided the design with colours, edge treatments and materials, helping to tell this story. As one of the primary external landscapes within the Armed Forces Offices Club precinct, the central garden courtyard is designed as a flexible multi-use open space and provides a focal point from the hotel.
