The conceptual idea for the pavilion was inspired by the grace and force of a falcon in flight. The landscape captures this symbolic interpretation, culminating in a fluid and contemporary design which is grounded in thought-leading placemaking, whilst reflecting unique characteristics of the UAE.

The streamlined shape of the falcon’s wings and feathers inspired the design of blade-shaped paving encased with regionally sourced stone, whilst the paving’s linear radial pattern is an extension of the fluidity and movement of the falcon’s wings. The wider desertscape is evocative of the country’s natural landscape and provides unobstructed views of the pavilion.

The landscape presents an immersive experience to visitors through multi-sensory engagement and innovation. An abundant use of plant species that are not typically used in public spaces are integrated into the design. Their range of colour and texture are juxtaposed against the tranquil sound and light emanating from the falaj, an ancient irrigation system modernised and in use today across parts of the UAE. The falaj itself is an incredibly innovative agricultural system that has been artfully integrated into the landscape proposal as a cultural reference to local invention.
